PEPARATION FOR PROJECT 2
Research 01:
1a.What is Poster Design?
A poster design is a
visual communication tool used to promote or advertise a product, event,
idea, or service. It typically consists of text, images, and graphics
arranged in a visually appealing and informative layout. Posters can be used
for various purposes, such as promoting a concert or movie, advertising a
sale or special offer, or advocating for a social cause. Poster design
involves careful consideration of typography, color, composition, and
imagery to create an eye-catching and effective design that communicates the
intended message to the target audience.
1b.What is good poster
design?
A good poster design is one that effectively communicates its
intended message to the target audience and captures their attention. Here
are some key elements that make a good poster design:
1.Eye-catching
visuals: A good poster design should have high-quality, visually appealing
graphics that grab the viewer's attention and communicate the message in an
instant.
2.Clear and concise message: The message on the poster should
be brief, to the point, and easy to read. Avoid using too many words and use
a font that is easy to read from a distance.
3.Proper use of color: The
color scheme of the poster should be carefully chosen to evoke the right
emotions and capture the viewer's attention. Use contrasting colors to make
the text stand out.
4.Balanced composition: The layout and design
elements of the poster should be arranged in a balanced and aesthetically
pleasing manner. Consider the use of negative space to avoid overcrowding
and make the design more visually appealing.
5.Targeted to the
audience: The poster design should be tailored to the target audience and
their interests. Consider the age, gender, culture, and other demographics
when designing the poster.
Overall, a good poster design should
be visually appealing, informative, and effectively convey the intended
message to the target audience.
1c.What is a photographic poster?
What is an illustrated poster?
A photographic poster is a poster design
that prominently features a photograph or series of photographs as the
primary visual element. The photograph(s) can be in color or black and white
and can be used to convey a message, promote an event or product, or to
simply create an aesthetically pleasing design.
An illustrated
poster, on the other hand, is a poster design that prominently features
illustrations or artwork as the primary visual element. The illustrations
can be hand-drawn, digitally created, or a combination of both and can be
used to convey a message, promote an event or product, or to create a unique
and visually engaging design.
Both photographic and illustrated
posters can be effective depending on the message being conveyed and the
target audience. The choice between the two often comes down to the desired
aesthetic, tone, and messaging of the poster.

Research 02:
2a. What is Double Exposure?
Double exposure is a photographic technique that involves combining two
or more images into a single frame. The result is a single image that
appears to be a blend of the two or more original images, creating a
surreal and dreamlike effect.
Traditionally, double exposure was achieved by exposing the same piece
of film twice, allowing the second exposure to blend with the first.
Today, double exposure can also be created digitally using photo editing
software.
Double exposure can be used creatively in photography and graphic
design to create unique and visually engaging images. It can be used to
combine two or more images that have a common theme or to create a
visual metaphor by blending two unrelated images. Double exposure can
also be used to create portraits that blend the subject with a landscape
or other elements, creating a sense of harmony between the subject and
the environment.
2b. What is Digital Double Exposure?
Digital double exposure is a technique used in digital photography and
graphic design to create an effect similar to traditional double
exposure. Instead of exposing the same piece of film twice, digital
double exposure involves using photo editing software to combine two or
more images into a single image.
The process typically involves overlaying one image on top of another,
adjusting the opacity and blending modes of each layer to create a
seamless blend between the two images. The result is an image that
appears to be a combination of the original images, creating a surreal
and dreamlike effect.
Digital double exposure can be used creatively in a variety of ways,
such as combining portraits with natural elements, merging urban
landscapes with abstract shapes, or blending animal and human forms to
create a hybrid creature. The technique allows for endless possibilities
and allows artists and designers to create unique and visually engaging
images that evoke a range of emotions and moods.

1. Double Exposure
The second objective of Project 2 entailed the production of a double
exposure artwork, wherein we incorporated our own self-portrait to overlap a
background of our choosing.
For the practical homework assignment, we are instructed to follow the
provided slides and utilize Photoshop to craft a double exposure artwork.
Double exposure is a fascinating technique in Photoshop that involves
various functions such as selection masks and clipping masks. This
technique enables the creation of a surreal and dream-like
photograph.

Fig 1.10 Portrait sample
We were also introduced to the functionality of gradient maps. Adobe
Photoshop contains many gradient map presets that can be used to efficiently
change the tone of the portrait. The tone I chose was Sepia-Blue 2 to give a
nostalgic feeling.
Fig 1.11 Final Practical Work
I opted to use an older self-portrait photograph of mine for this project.
Additionally, I discovered several captivating background images on Google
to complement my artwork.
Fig 1.12 Self-portrait for Double Exposure Task
Then I exported my self-portrait to Adobe Photoshop and masked out the
background first. This is followed by the addition of a gradient map to give a
monochrome colour scheme which was required.
The concept behind the double exposure artwork was to convey the multitude
of thoughts swirling within my mind, just like the waves crashing in.
Fig 1.13 Wave picture
In my initial attempt at the design, I created a clipping mask of the
wave and incorporated an earphone as a symbolic element to express my
focused state of mind. This addition represented my deep concentration on
my thoughts during the creative process.
Fig 1.14 Fist Attempt in Double Exposure
Taking into account the feedback received from Mr. Martin, I made the
decision to introduce additional design elements to enhance the artwork. I
included clouds and a flock of birds to evoke a seaside ambiance and
capture the accompanying emotions. Furthermore, I cropped the image to a
smaller size to ensure it harmoniously fit within the wave
composition.
After completing the final attempt, I decided to experiment with
different colors to enhance the overall design. Initially, I thought blue
would be the most suitable choice, but upon evaluation, I found that it
didn't complement the design as well as anticipated. As an alternative, I
explored the option of using a pink color scheme and discovered that it
worked better in enhancing the overall aesthetic of the artwork compared
to the blue color.

Fig 1.16 Light Blue Attempt
Fig 1.17 Pink Attempt
Ultimately, for my final decision, I opted to use a black and white color
scheme. This choice was motivated by the desire to create a stark contrast
between myself and the wave, emphasizing the emotions I wished to convey.
The black and white tones also added a sense of sadness and melancholy to
the artwork, effectively capturing the intended emotional
expression.

2. My Tiger Value Poster Progression
For the first progression for me to do is to make sure on the topic of the poster.
Fig 2.1 MyTiger Value Poster
For the topic of this year is Sustainable Government Goals , and I have a research on what is sdg? SDG stands for Sustainable Development Goals. The Sustainable Development Goals are a set of 17 global goals established by the United Nations in 2015. These goals are part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which is a plan of action aimed at ending poverty, protecting the planet, and ensuring peace and prosperity for all people by the year 2030.
The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) cover a broad range of interconnected issues, including poverty eradication, education, gender equality, clean energy, sustainable cities, climate action, responsible consumption, and biodiversity conservation, among others. Each goal has specific targets and indicators to track progress.
• No Poverty
• Zero Hunger
• Good Health and Well-being
• Quality Education
• Clean Water and Sanitation
• Affordable and Clean Energy
• Decent Work and Economic Growth
• Sustainable Cities and Communities
• Responsible Consumption and Production
• Climate Action
• Life Below Water
• Life on Land
2.1 Idea Development
INTRO (What theme/themes you will choose? And why?) | Life on Land. |
PARAGRAPH 1 (Keywords related to your idea) | Conservation refers to the protection, preservation, and sustainable management of natural resources and ecosystems, including terrestrial habitats and landscapes. It encompasses efforts to safeguard biodiversity, mitigate habitat destruction, prevent land degradation, and promote responsible land use practices for the well-being of both humans and the environment. Land conservation is the long-term protection and management of unused or underused land resources, such as open space, farmland, and forest land. |
PARAGRAPH 2 (How to present the keywords in visual?) | . Plant a Tree, Grow a Legacy. For the design of the words I use the pattern of our Earth to emphasize the importance of our Mother Earth. |
SUMMARY (Title/tagline compliment the visual) | By planting a tree, we create a tangible legacy that will outlast our lifetime. The destruction of natural habitats has pushed numerous species to the brink of extinction. Many of these species rely on specific types of trees for survival, whether for food, nesting, or shelter. By planting trees that are native to a region, we provide crucial support to endangered species, giving them a chance to recover and thrive. Tree planting initiatives can be designed to prioritize the restoration of specific habitats that are essential for the survival of endangered plants and animals. By reintroducing these vital ecosystems, we create sanctuaries for threatened species and contribute to their long-term preservation. |

3. Digitalize
To enhance my design, I conducted a search on both Google and Pinterest to find suitable photos. I carefully masked out these selected images to incorporate them as elements within my artwork. This process allowed me to introduce additional visual elements and further enrich the overall composition.
Fig 3.1 Hand
Fig 3.2 Font texture
Fig 3.3 Tiger
Fig 3.4 Earth
Life on land encompasses the diverse array of ecosystems that occur in terrestrial environments. From towering forests to expansive grasslands, arid deserts to icy tundra, land supports a wide range of life forms, each playing a unique role in maintaining the balance and functioning of our planet. The inspiration of my design is a movie which is about how nature grow well if humans does not exist. As the ruler of Earth, humans do not take good care about our Mother Earth. We often cut down trees to make paper, and we never say thank you. As the saying goes, you rip what you sow, I design the hand in the poster to be cut off just like the tree, it means that if we humans do not take action to protect the nature, it will affect ourself in future. The trees are important to the life on Earth, without trees we will be lacking oxygen and animals’ habitat will be destroyed. For the slogan, I use the colour of the Earth as my design as to remind others how gorgeous our planet is. The slogan is to call others to take action to help our nature, planting a tree can help to grow a legacy in our future.
DIGITAL POSTER #1 | DIGITAL POSTER #2 |
| |
I digitally created two posters utilizing the same elements, but with notable differences. The first difference lies in the font design, where I used a distinct style for each poster. Additionally, I adjusted the brightness and contrast settings to achieve different visual effects between the two posters.
For the second poster, I incorporated a grunge texture in the font design, adding a worn and edgy appearance. However, I took care to ensure that the text remains easily legible despite the texture applied.
To enhance the realism of the poster, I added shadows beneath the animals, providing a sense of depth and making them appear more lifelike within the composition. These subtle details contribute to the overall visual impact of the second poster.
