INSTRUCTIONS

Project 2 : Visual design
To begin the booklet design, I researched potential design styles on Pinterest that would suit my dissertation research topic. After some time, I successfully gathered ideas for a booklet design style that matched the focus on animation aesthetics. I organized the images and embedded them in Google Slides. Additionally, I browsed Adobe's website and other design sites to gather materials and resources for the publication design. These included fonts, color codes for the booklet background, and various design assets and icons.

We are assigned to design the publication for their dissertation. The design should match the research topic. Since it's expected to be in e-publication format, the lecturer has set the page layout, size, font, and font size. It's recommended to use an A5 size, in case a printed version is needed for future audits or MQA accreditation. We can make other design choices, with guidance from the lecturer during tutorials.

The dissertation cover should have the title of the research, along with
the student's name. The following must be found behind the title page:
• Student's full name (as appear in the registry)
• Student number
• The Design School at Taylor's University, Subang Jaya, Selangor,
Malaysia.
• Design Research Dissertation (DIS60304)
• Bachelor of Design Creative Media
• Semester intake
• Date of submission

In week 10, I began creating the first draft of the booklet design in Adobe InDesign, experimenting with the design elements I collected over the past two weeks. I developed the design based on visual references to ensure it met the concept requirements. I applied design principles to create a visually appealing layout that served its purpose and function. While designing the content layout, I used the draft dissertation as a reference, even though it's not yet complete. To avoid major changes that could affect the layout, I made some adjustments to the content of the draft dissertation. It has been a bit challenging to use Adobe InDesign, as I don't have much experience with it.

After completing the draft booklet design, I decided to adjust the overall layout to better align with the research topic. The adjustments included modifying the background colour, resizing text, rearranging paragraphs, and other design changes. After finishing the final booklet design, I added the page numbers. Following a consultation with Dr. Hayati, I uploaded the dissertation publication to a flipping book generator to review the overall design outcome.
