REFLECTIONS
Experience
Through this semester of typography class, I realize that Typography is not
what I think at first. From this class I have learned to have research and
really to learn typography and not just follow the lecture. As the weeks
progressed, we delved into the fundamental principles of typography,
including type anatomy, letter spacing, kerning, leading, and hierarchy. In
addition to the technical aspects, our typography class also emphasized the
importance of conceptual thinking and creativity. We were challenged to push
the boundaries of conventional typography, exploring unconventional layouts,
experimental compositions, and typographic expressions that conveyed
abstract concepts. These exercises encouraged us to think critically,
explore our artistic instincts, and take risks with our designs. The most
important thing that I have learn is to create with my own passion, not just
to know about the grades but to learn something from it.
Observation
After this 14 weeks of typography class I have learn something about
typography is nurtured a spirit of exploration and creative freedom. We
fearlessly challenged conventions, exploring innovative typographic
solutions, and breaking free from traditional layouts.. Apart from that, I
have realized that typography had the power to evoke emotions, convey
meaning, and amplify the intended message of a design when thoughtfully
integrated with other visual elements. I have also experimented with
unusual materials that is not used in writing usually, it makes a lot of
difference compared to the other modules, typography emphasize what can we
create and learn about it. We were actively encouraged to challenge the
conventions and explore unconventional typographic solutions.
Findings
Throughout this semester of 14 weeks of class, I discovered that I am not
particularly skilled when it comes to paying attention to details. Despite
my best efforts, I found it challenging to focus on the intricacies of
typography and execute precise letter spacing, kerning, and
leading. During the class assignments , I try attempted to refine my
attention on the details. However, I often struggled to achieve the level of
precision that I desired. Small errors in letter spacing or inconsistent
alignment would sometimes escape my notice until they were pointed out by Mr
Vinod or classmates during feedback. Although I may not have achieved the
level of detail mastery I desired by the end of the semester, I recognize
that this journey is ongoing. Typography is like any skill, requires
practice and lots of patience, I have come to understand that while
attention to detail is essential in typography, it does not define my
overall design capabilities and I will still move on to learn more on
it.
