LECTURES
Week 2
During the briefing session today, Ms. Hayati and Dr. Jinchi provided
us with an overview of the module information and outlined the tasks
for the upcoming 14 weeks. Our primary objective for today was to
carefully consider our choice of specialization, as this decision will
guide us in selecting a research topic aligned with our field of
interest.
Week 3
How to make a research?
Research is a systematic and methodical process of investigation,
exploration, or study carried out to discover, validate, or expand
knowledge in a particular field. It involves gathering and analyzing
information, data, or evidence to answer questions, test hypotheses,
solve problems, or gain a deeper understanding of a subject. Research
can take many forms, such as scientific experiments, surveys,
interviews, literature reviews, and more. It plays a crucial role in
advancing human knowledge across various domains, from science and
technology to social sciences and the humanities.

Week 4
What is critical review?
A critical review, also known as a critical analysis or critique, is
an evaluation and assessment of a piece of work, such as an article,
book, film, artwork, research paper, or any creative or scholarly
endeavor. The primary goal of a critical review is to provide an
informed and balanced judgment of the work, addressing its strengths
and weaknesses.
Instructions:
Select 3 research articles (related to the research problem) that were
published within the last 5 years.
Referring to the guide and notes provided in Microsoft Teams, write a
review for each article, following the list below:
a) The article’s reference, written in APA style (p.5), 7th edition.
b) Summary of article
c) Strengths & weaknesses of the article
d) Conclusion
e) Reference list
I've selected these three articles from my list of references.

Week 2
General Feedback:
We are advised to use Google scholar to have some idea of the
topic. Do more reading to know what is more suitable to research
about.
Specific Feedback:
Everything in the world has its role, so we are advised to
research something that is not a fact. Importance of animation
needs a lot of time to research.
Week 3
General Feedback:
Can try to design your PowerPoint layout for your
proposal.
Specific Feedback:
The topic is important and it will affect your other work so
need to have more research on it.
Week 4
General Feedback :
Must find references from Google scholar to support your
research.
Specific Feedback :
Choose one product or one movie to specify on the research.
People recognize things differently if they are not the same
age. It is better to specify the time or date.
Week 7
General Feedback:
Critical Review must use the references that are related
to your topic.
Specific Feedback:
Add citation to the problem statement.
Week 8
General Feedback:
The questions must be useful for your research.
Specific Feedback:
Remember to ask a question if the participants
watched Disney Movies.
Week 9
General Feedback:
The questions must be two methods that can collect the
data we need for data analyzing.
Specific Feedback:
Citation is important and must be referenced. Change the
concept of the topic and the idea will be better.
Week 11
General Feedback:
Quickly start to get the data collection before it’s too
late.
Specific Feedback:
The question is related to the topic but it is not
specific enough.
Week 12
General Feedback:
Go on with the work.
Specific Feedback:
The primary data question can be more specific.
Week 13
General Feedback:
Start to analyze the primary data.
Specific Feedback:
Analyze the data percentage.
Week 14
General Feedback:
Good luck to all and check on the work before submit.
Specific Feedback:
Presentations must include our face.
REFLECTIONS
Week 2
Experience:
At First I read the notes and instructions on what is design
research methodology. After that I start to sketch out my
thoughts in a paper and make a small mind map to make the
information in my mind clear.
Observation:
After feedback from Dr Hayati, I have known that my topic needs
to be narrowed. I also realize that a lot of my classmates made
the same mistake. For me it is still a bit confusing and I ask
some questions and it is better to understand.
Findings:
I will try to use Google scholar and Wikipedia to search for
more related ideas for me to explore.
Week 3
Experience:
I have more research on my topic and I discovered that I have
choose the wrong topic as it is unsearchable. I try to change my
idea of the topic.
Observation:
From the feedback from Dr Hayati to me and my classmates I realise
that it is important for us to read more articles before deciding
the topic.
Findings:
It is a hard time for me as I have search the wrong topic and I
will try to look some samples before deciding my topic.
Week 4
Experience:
I turn my idea to be more specific to Disney animation. But Dr
Hayati advised me that I can choose a specific time. It can help
me to research easier if I have a specific time or choose one
movie.
Observation:
I pay attention to my classmate’s topic when Dr Hayati is giving
them feedback to make sure I don’t make the same mistakes.
Findings :
I still need to be more careful on my topic as it is still too
broad. I have a research on how to do a good research and I will
try to follow some instructions through my research.
Week 7
Experience:
Engaging in the critical review assignment has underscored the
fundamental importance of reading in the research
process.
Observation:
Through the evaluation of various sources, I've come to
recognize that reading serves as the foundation for acquiring
knowledge, understanding different perspectives, and
critically analyzing information
Findings:
Reading is not only necessary for research, it's a crucial and
continuous practice that helps us ask informed questions,
analyze information carefully, and create new knowledge.
Week 8
Experience:
It is difficult for me to start a new assignment without reading the
instructions so I read all the files in the group and I get more
understanding through class materials.
Observation:
I look for some examples from online materials to know what I can do
for this assignment. I discuss with my friends and I write some
questions using who, what, how.
Findings:
I find it challenging to formulate all my research questions
independently due to my lack of experience in data collection.
Therefore, I've chosen to review the progress of my classmates for
guidance.
Week 9
Experience:
I think I have a clearer concept after having feedback from Dr
Hayati. I changed the concept from investigating the costume design
to finding out the impact of the costume design for the audience.
Observation:
I discovered that it is easier for me when having a clear concept of
the research topic. Through thinking quantitative questions I have a
lot of questions to ask but I choose the best question to ask.
Findings:
I must exercise greater caution in refining my data collection. My
study focuses on effective research methodologies, and I aim to
adhere to specific guidelines throughout the investigative process.
Week 11
Experience:
I list out the questions that are targeted Disney movie lovers,
using Google Form for my data collection in a quantitative method.
As for the qualitative method I decided to email some of my seniors
and some professionals of digital animation.
Observation:
Utilizing and analyzing the collected data is a complex task, but
after Dr. Hayati provided some examples, I now have a clearer
understanding.
Findings:
I intend to review additional samples of my work before submitting
it.
Week 12
Experience:
After getting feedback I realize that questions for data collection
are truly important for my research.
Observation:
Through different questions I maybe can get answers that I need or
not. Research is not always perfect to get the answer I want.
Findings:
Formulating all my research questions independently proves
challenging due to my limited experience in data collection.
Week 13
Experience:
I have collected 81 feedbacks from the google form and I have no
idea on how to analyze the data collected. After feedback from
Dr Hayati and example from classmates I will start to analyze the
data collected.
Observation:
Through examples I learn that I can first analyze the percentage of
the data and research from the percentages of the answer.
Findings:
I need to be more careful when refining my data collection. My
research centers on effective research methodologies, and I strive
to follow particular guidelines consistently during the
investigative process.
Week 14
Experience : The initial difficulty I experienced was, in hindsight,
a crucial part of the learning process. It pushed me to engage more
deeply with the subject matter, and the challenges ultimately became
opportunities for growth. I appreciate the way the course content
was structured, allowing for a gradual immersion into the
complexities of the material.
Observation: By the end of the course, I not only felt more
confident in navigating the material but also developed a sense of
accomplishment in mastering concepts that initially seemed daunting.
This transformation from initial difficulty to a more solid
understanding has been a rewarding journey.
Findings: As the course concluded, I not only gained confidence in
navigating the material but also experienced a profound sense of
achievement in mastering concepts that initially appeared
challenging. This progression from initial difficulty to a more
robust understanding has been an immensely fulfilling journey.
